The Community Grants Program provides a strategic opportunity for Council to work in partnership with community groups and organisations to strengthen community capacity and create and promote an inclusive, liveable, and sustainable City of Port Philip.

The Community Grants Program aims to :

  • strengthen and leverage the capacity of local community groups and networks
  • enable access to inclusive and accessible events, programs and services particularly, for older people, people who identify as LGBTIQA+, people with disability, people from multicultural backgrounds, First Peoples, people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, and persons experiencing social and economic disadvantage.
  • build social connections, value diversity and address health and wellbeing inequities in our communities
  • promote volunteering whilst enhancing the provision of community services, programs and support
  • foster sustainability initiatives that maximise reuse and recycling opportunities and supports the circular economy
  • support programs and projects that are innovative and or address local emerging needs within our community.

The grants program has two panels, each consisting of one Councillor, one Senior Council Officer and two community representatives that review grant applications and make recommendations for Council. Each panel member will contribute a maximum of 50 hours that will be required over a 4 week period in June and July 2025 to review the submissions before 2 online panel meetings take place in late July 2025. 

 Eligibility Criteria:

  • live, work, or volunteer in the City of Port Phillip  
  • have NO financial ties with the City of Port Phillip
  • have access to a computer and the internet to review electronic applications.

Assessment Criteria:

  • be committed to supporting and strengthening a diverse community that encourages the participation and inclusion of all residents  
  • be understanding of issues affecting residents in City of Port Phillip including youth, families and children, seniors, women and marginalised community members  
  • have knowledge of local community organisations and groups and an awareness of local networks.   
  • involvement in the local community, including but not limited to clubs, organisations, committees and groups  
  • experience in the administration of community funded projects and or the grants assessment process
