About the Cultural Development Fund Grants Program

The Cultural Development Fund (CDF) grants program has been developed by Council to support artists, arts and cultural organisations and creative community projects in the City of Port Phillip.

This program has three grant streams: 

  • CDF-Projects - for all artists who live or work in the City of Port Phillip or for incorporated not for profit organisations or groups based in Port Phillip. Up to $12,000. (annual)
  • CDF-Key Organisations - multi-year funding (3 years) for significant incorporated not for profit arts and cultural organisations based in Port Phillip. Up to $30,000 per organisation per year of funding.
  • CDF-Festivals and Events - for incorporated not for profit arts, cultural and community organisations for creative arts, cultural and community festivals and events. Up to $20,000. (annual)

Applications to Cultural Development Fund grants are assessed by the Cultural Development Fund Reference Committee which consists of a Port Phillip Councillor and up to eight community members appointed by Council for a two-year term. Two assessment panels are formed from the Committee.

Committee members will need to be available for one to two grants assessment meetings per year, with an option for additional meetings where required. Assessment of grant applications may take between 25 to 50 hours annually.

Applicants may also nominate to be a member of the Committee Pool for the purpose of supporting the work of the Committee where needed. 

Nominees will need to demonstrate that they:

  • live or work or volunteer in the City of Port Phillip or demonstrate a strong connection to the cultural life of the City.
  • demonstrate experience in cultural and creative industries and / or creative-based festivals and events including in production, programming, marketing, administration or management or precinct-based tourism / promotion.
  • demonstrate experience, passion and enthusiasm for the issues and challenges related to the purposes of the Reference Committee or Panel.
  • have the ability to appreciate a range of interests and factors impacting on the matters under discussion
  • demonstrate commitment to participative and consultative processes

Experience in funding and grants, committee, board or volunteer roles would be desirable.

Applicants with financial ties to the City of Port Phillip are not eligible to apply.
